Well Im back from a week in Eilat. Had a nice relaxing time taking photos, SCUBA in the Red Sea and soaking up the sun. As soon as I arrived there and booked a room I decided to go out and trek through town and see what Eilat had to offer. The weather I thought was mild, maybe a little warmer than Jerusalem with a nice breeze blowing off the Red Sea. I wasnt really hungry so I didnt bother to eat till later that night. I also failed to drink ANY water. I would later regret that with a splitting headache and wanting to pass out every 100 yrds. Lesson learned.
SCUBA was my main goal and it was nice to be in the water again. Our dive boat actually had to depart from Taba, Egypt. Which is on the Sinai Peninsula. I was tempted to head straight to Cairo but that would be another 8-9 hrs on the bus. No thanks.
Eilat is small and quite removed from Jerusalem. Where as everyone dresses modestly and traditional in Jerusalem, bikinis and saggy pants are the norm in Eilat. Unfortunately its not immuned to terrorist activity. Its last bombing was just last year.
So yes I will be going to Cairo. Probably mid Jan. From what I hear this would be a low season for them and would be alot cheaper. On my way to Cairo I will likely stay another night in Eilat and visit Petra at this time as well.
However before that I need to figure out where I will spend my Christmas. I was thinking Bethlehem. I might have to go a week or two in advanced to find a place. It might be pretty crowded already.
